Coronation St

When Granada TV launched Coronation Street in 1960, the programme was a breakthrough in the portrayal of the real North. The original cast were relatively unknown actors who had been carefully selected for their roles. Their characters were to become iconic and the actors' lives were changed forever. This talk looks at the lives and careers of some of the original actors before they joined 'The Street'.

In 1971 Granada TV broadcast the first series of The Comedians. Massively popular, it had a straightforward format of stand-up comedians telling jokes. Unashamedly Lancastrian in character, it made stars of such stalwart clubland stand-ups George Roper, Colin Crompton, Ken Goodwin and Frank Carson. This talk tells the story of their lives and careers.
